From the birth of the republic, American presidents have communicated with the public in one form or another. The frequency and exact nature of such efforts have varied quite a bit over time due to variables ranging from the extent of partisanship in the media to each commander in chief’s personal preference to travel technology. Political scientist Anne Pluta has explored this history deeply, including extensive analysis of contemporary newspaper accounts back to the late 18th century. And her insights, contained in writings like the book “Persuading the Public: The Evolution of Popular Presidential Communication from Washington to Trump,” provide plenty of surprises and even challenge some conventional wisdom about the presidency.

La epidemia de gripe aviar avanza en el continente americano, propagada por aves migratorias.Y su impacto en la fauna silvestre pone en alerta a los veterinarios. El virus ha diezmado al 3% de la poblacion de lobos marinos en Perú y ahora causa estragos en las costas chilenas. Cerca de 9 mil animales silvestres murieron en lo que va del año en las costas chilenas.

Tras ser detectado por primera vez en Norteamérica, el virus de la gripe aviar H5N1 se extendió por 17 países del continente con las aves migratorias.

A tal punto que hoy representa un peligro para la salud de los animales tanto domésticos como silvestres, indicó la Organización Panamericana de la Salud.

El brote ha llevado a la muerte a 52 millones de aves de corral en EEUU en 2022. Y en Suramérica afecta en particular la fauna silvestre poniendo en peligro la biodiversidad marina.

Las autoridades médicas recomiendan mantener distancia con los animales varados en las playas. Y alejar las mascotas también de animales silvestres sospechosos de ser portadores de la influenza aviar.
